Mechanical Engineer (Rotating Equipment)

Job Summary (Why does job exist)
The Rotating Equipment Mechanical Engineer reports directly to the Reliability and Performance Manager and is responsible for managing rotating equipment at Plant. This position will work closely with all departments, and station management in monitoring equipment condition, and the planning and execution projects that improve the condition and reliability of the facility. The primary function of the Rotating Equipment Mechanical Engineer will be involved in but not limited to System and Plant performance, Mechanical Devices, Components, Steam Turbines, Pumps, Valves, Piping, Supports, Material Handling Equipment, and Plant Auxiliaries. This person will use engineering principles to provide technical support for the Plant.
ESSSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provide technical guidance to other departments on processes, procedures, repairs, and projects
· Assist in the development of projects and evaluation of proposals for material supply and installation
· Assist and lead project execution to maintain budget and schedule compliance
· Coordinate contractors in the execution of testing and maintenance
· Responsible for participation in the following station programs / activities
· Root Cause Analysis- Participate in / lead investigations to identify casual factors and implement corrective actions
· Unit and equipment evaluation- Monitor identified reliability and performance issues; work with station and external personnel to determine cause and resolution.
· Support outages- Participate in the planning and execution of outages to ensure scope, schedule, and budget are maintained
· Lead and participate in Team Safety Observation Program
· Participate and lead Management of Change (MOC) assignments
· Support and lead 5-year budget development for areas of expertise
· Work with maintenance and contractors to interpret PdM data and implement corrective actions.
· Support development, execution, and documentation of outages for assigned equipment.
· Monitor equipment health and processes by participating in weekly performance meetings, Asset360 meetings, creating trends, and interfacing with individuals in other departments.
· Read and interpret Blueprints, Technical drawings, Schematics, and Computer-generated reports.
· Maintain backlog of assigned Work Orders
· Comply with the obligations of all permits including Federal, State, and Local regulations.
· Perform all other related duties as assigned.
· Willing to accept accountability for own decisions, performance, and behavior.
Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
· A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
· Preferred steam turbine experience.
· A minimum of 5 years’ experience in steam power plant operations.
· Strong fundamental understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mechanical systems
· Extensive experience in the use of personal computers and numerous software applications such as Excel, Word, MS Outlook, Powerpoint, etc.
· Experience in the following software applications beneficial
· OSIsoft PI, AutoCAD, Intertek AWARE, Maximo, Emerson Ovation, TapRoot
· Ability to productively work independently and as an overall integral team member.
· Must have strong communication both written and verbal skills and the ability to effectively organize and facilitate process teams to implement facility improvements.
· Ability to handle changing situations under stress and to work extended hours on short notice if required.
· Successfully complete pre-employment exam, including a drug/alcohol test, and a background check.
