Position Overview
A leading organization in the energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, and building systems industry is seeking an experienced Director of Project Delivery to lead construction and project management operations across a substantial portfolio of performance contracting, energy infrastructure, and mechanical retrofit projects.
This is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing project execution, developing high-performing teams, managing financial performance, and ensuring successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC), large-scale construction management, design-build delivery, mechanical/HVAC retrofits, or energy infrastructure projects, along with demonstrated success managing significant project portfolios and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Operations Leadership
Provide strategic and operational leadership for construction and project management teams responsible for delivering large-scale sustainable infrastructure and performance contracting projects.
Oversee the successful execution of a project portfolio exceeding $100 million, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
Manage project delivery across multiple contract structures, including performance contracting, design-build, mechanical retrofits, energy conservation, and renewable energy initiatives.
Establish project execution standards, resource plans, staffing requirements, and operational objectives to maximize efficiency and profitability.
Oversee project planning, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, risk management, quality assurance, and contract administration.
Provide leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from early development and preconstruction through execution, closeout, and post-project evaluation.
Identify opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiencies, and enhanced project delivery performance.
Financial & Portfolio Management
Maintain overall accountability for the financial performance and profitability of the assigned project portfolio.
Manage revenue forecasting, project budgets, gross margins, cash flow, billing, and financial reporting.
Monitor project performance against established financial and operational objectives, proactively addressing potential risks or margin erosion.
Partner with executive leadership in developing annual operating plans, financial targets, and growth strategies.
Participate in monthly project portfolio and backlog reviews, providing accurate forecasts of revenue, costs, and gross margin.
Evaluate complex contract structures, project risks, and financial considerations during project development and execution.
Drive improvements in speed to revenue, project profitability, cash flow, and overall operational performance.
Team Development & Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary organization of project managers, construction professionals, and supporting operations personnel.
Establish staffing and resource allocation strategies based on project backlog, anticipated growth, and operational requirements.
Recruit, retain, and develop high-performing employees while creating clear expectations for accountability, professional growth, and career advancement.
Conduct performance evaluations, establish development plans, and support succession planning.
Foster a collaborative, results-oriented culture focused on safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
Effectively lead both direct-report and matrixed teams across multiple departments and business functions.
Client Relationships & Business Development Support
Serve as a senior-level point of contact for customers, including executive and C-suite stakeholders.
Build and maintain strong customer relationships throughout all phases of project development and execution.
Support business development teams during early project evaluation, energy audits, conceptual design, estimating, and contract negotiations.
Provide input on project feasibility, subcontractor selection, value engineering, scope development, and risk mitigation.
Resolve escalated customer concerns involving project scope, schedule, financial performance, and contractual obligations.
Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, industry organizations, and other strategic partners.
Collaborate with engineering, sales, procurement, and local operations teams to ensure successful project execution.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
Champion a strong safety culture across all projects, employees, and subcontractors.
Ensure compliance with company safety standards, applicable building codes, contractual requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations.
Establish consistent project management processes, quality standards, and project execution plans.
Monitor operational performance through established KPIs, including safety, schedule adherence, customer satisfaction, profitability, and cash flow.
Promote ethical business practices, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical discipline.
10+ years of progressive experience in construction management, project delivery, or related operations leadership.
Demonstrated experience managing large-scale project portfolios exceeding $100 million.
Strong understanding of performance contracting, design-build construction, energy infrastructure, mechanical/HVAC retrofits, or other complex infrastructure delivery models.
Experience leading and developing multidisciplinary project management and construction teams.
Strong financial acumen, including project budgeting, forecasting, revenue recognition, gross margin management, and cash flow.
Ability to evaluate conceptual designs, identify project risks, and develop effective mitigation strategies.
Experience managing subcontractor relationships, contract negotiations, and complex project execution requirements.
Proficiency with construction scheduling and project management software, including tools such as Primavera and Procore.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe applications, and financial reporting systems.
Excellent communication, negotiation, organizational, and executive-level presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple business functions and lead teams within a matrixed organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC), Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), or sustainable infrastructure projects.
Professional certifications such as PMP or Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA).
