Engineering Change Specialist

This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with experience in engineering change management, manufacturing, industrial engineering, supply chain, or a related technical field. The Engineering Change Specialist will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Procurement, and other cross-functional teams to ensure engineering changes are evaluated, approved, implemented, and documented accurately and efficiently.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of engineering drawings, bills of material (BOMs), manufacturing processes, inventory considerations, and change-control procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and continuously improve the engineering change management process, including ECN workflows, procedures, governance standards, and process improvement initiatives.
Receive, validate, prioritize, and process engineering change requests while ensuring documentation is complete and compliant with established procedures.
Coordinate cross-functional reviews involving Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Procurement, Service, Suppliers, and other stakeholders.
Evaluate the technical, quality, cost, inventory, procurement, compliance, and scheduling impacts of proposed engineering changes.
Manage approval workflows and release activities, ensuring all required reviews and approvals are completed before changes are implemented.
Develop and execute implementation plans addressing production timing, effectivity, inventory disposition, supplier coordination, and communication requirements.
Support sourcing, procurement, quoting, and implementation activities for new and revised parts.
Evaluate the impact of engineering changes on production operations, including manufacturing processes, material availability, production schedules, existing inventory, work-in-process, supplier inventory, and material obsolescence.
Determine inventory disposition and rework requirements resulting from engineering changes and develop appropriate documentation and implementation instructions.
Maintain product configuration accuracy by creating, updating, and controlling bills of material, drawings, material master data, work instructions, and ERP/PLM records.
Serve as a primary resource for engineering change implementation and escalate complex or high-risk issues when necessary.
Monitor engineering change metrics and participate in post-implementation reviews to identify issues, determine root causes, and drive corrective and continuous improvement actions.
Develop training materials and provide training related to engineering change processes, implementation requirements, and product changes.
Qualifications & Experience
3–5 years of experience in engineering change management, manufacturing, industrial engineering, supply chain, or a related technical field preferred.
Strong knowledge of engineering drawings, bills of material (BOMs), manufacturing processes, and engineering change control procedures.
Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of the metric system required.
Experience working with ERP/MRP and PLM systems required.
SAP and SmartSheet experience preferred.
Associate's or bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
Equivalent education, technical training, and relevant professional experience will also be considered.
Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively across multiple departments and manage several engineering changes simultaneously.
